Its finally arrived, after what many remember as being one of our longer winters in quite a while, things are definitely greening up. Thats not to say we haven't seen a snow flurry or two or don't have a few remnants of ice along the North Shore of Superior (we have and we do) but paddling season has definitely begun.
Some well established and early races have been happening around the region (Mora Minnesota's Snake River race, Wiconsin's Burlington Pursuit race, Illinois' Des Plaines Canoe Marathon to name a few) and some brand new events are slated for this June and July. Check the events page for some links to upcomming happenings and come join us on the water for some good clean fun.
New Boats and boards have arrived and will continue to do so over the next month or two. Currently we have 50 hard to find fitness, racing and fast touring boats in stock. The new Think Uno is here, an elite level racer that will likely keep pace with the other elite boats currently at the top of the race results. Also expecting Fenn Elites and Mako XT's very soon and maybe even the new Epic V-12.
It is definitely a good time to be a surf skier, lots of improvements from the manufacturers and more choices for those of us who thrill at the speed, efficiency and challenge of these craft.
Surfers, have you heard or read about the new Meyerhoffer?

How about NSP's coming out with some new fun boards and soft top SUP's? I was in Coasta Rica in early April and was pleased to find one of these new fun boards to rent just down the beach from where I was staying. Sure wish Superior and the rest of the Great Lakes offered up waves as frequently as the beaches of Coasta Rica, somwhere in that 70 degree water range wouldn't be half bad either. Many of the Ticas were actually sporting goose bumps and commenting on the cold water temps, what can you say in that situation, its all a matter of perspective.
Oh, and during the race on the Des Plaines Rver down in Illinois last weekend, I saw my very first stand up paddler competing in the race along with 600 other boats, the crossover is going full circle, paddlers can surf with surfers, surfers can race with paddlers. "One Love", as Bob Marley might say.
Lots happening as always when spring comes to the north country. Hope to see you on the water.
Get out & get wet!
